Our History
Our department extends back into the late 1700's when geology was first being studied in colleges. However, our department wasn't officially founded until February 5th, 1866. There is a lot of history that came before and after that date and a number of notable alumni who studied geology at Columbia. Take a walk through our history with the timeline below.
