Research Interest

Bio

Fola is a structural geologist interested in (1) the structure and evolution of crustal deformation at active plate boundaries, (2) the tectonic and anthropogenic reactivation of ancient 'dormant' fault systems, and (3) the implications of the processes for natural hazards and resource exploration. His research approach involves the integration of geological field observations, subsurface seismology and geophysical imaging, and lab geomechanical rock testing. Current projects include the investigation of early-stage development of continental rifts (East Africa & Western US), and the geological structure and frictional behavior of intraplate earthquake sources (Central/Eastern US and Western Africa).
