Bio
Eden Halpert is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University studying heavy metal mobilization in wetland soils with Dr. Benjamin Bostick. Her research focuses on characterizing rice paddy soil dynamics and nutrient uptake mechanisms through field and laboratory experiments. She works at the intersection between the environment, public health, and social issues through the lens of agriculture. In 2023, Eden graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in Environmental Science and East Asian Studies. As a Fulbright Student Researcher (2023-2024), she conducted research on the effects of regional differences and climate change on rice growth in Vietnam with the Soil Tech Lab at Hanoi University of Science. In her free time, Eden enjoys hiking, cooking new recipes (many with rice), and exploring New York City.
