Research Interest

Biography

Zappa is an observational physical oceanographer at the forefront of air-sea interaction. He is dedicated to understanding the processes that affect ocean-atmosphere interaction and their boundary layers. His focus includes heat, mass, momentum, and energy transport, ocean wave dynamics and wave breaking, near-surface ocean turbulence, upper-ocean processes/transport, polar ocean processes, coastal and estuarine dynamics. He leads a continuing evolution of developing measurement systems for observing sub-mesoscale ocean variability and processes.
