Nicolas studies paleobiology, ecomorphology, and the relationships between evolution and environment in the context of changing climates. Their dissertation research models the origin and expansion of deserts in southwestern North America through the morphology and paleoecology of ungulates and other large terrestrial mammals from the Neogene to the present.
