Alan Garcia
Biography
Alan is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. He is Guatemalan and he has a physics/astrophysics background. His research interests are climate forecasting and verification, climate services and how these are used by society, especially in tropical developing countries. He is also affiliated to the International Research Institute of Climate and Society (IRI) at Columbia University.
Education
He has a Bachelor in Physics from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala and a Master of Science in Astrophysics from Univesrity of Innsbruck (Austria) and University of Padova (Italy). Before joining DEES, Alan worked in the National Weather Service of Guatemala - INSIVUMEH - where he was on charge of developing seasonal forecast tools, creation/maintenance of operational products and dissemination of climate services.
