The American Geological Institute (AGI), compiler of many useful statistics about education and research in the earth and environmental sciences, reports an 8% increase in enrollments in undergraduate degree programs for 2008-2009, much of which appears driven by increased awareness of energy and environmental issues. And to get a little closer to home, DEES has more rising junior majors and concentrators than at any point in the last several decades; so we are actually well ahead of the national curve.
